We consider denim to be a staple in a wardrobe. Many of us still wear skinny jeans, but in the past few seasons it’s becoming more common to wear alternate styles such as a straight leg, flare or cropped.
The Bootcut & Flare
The bootcut and flare style denim is back. The 2021 styles are a little slimmer than in the past, higher in the rise, and have a kick out at the bottom. The best bootcut and flare jeans for 2021 are a medium to heavy weight denim.
The modern take on these styles are easy to incorporate into an existing wardrobe. Wear them with ankle boots, lug-sole footwear, sneakers, sandals, and even a pair of pumps. The only footwear that doesn’t look great with the bootcut and flare is a flat ballet style. They get lost under the flare so it’s better to use a shoe with some volume and structure.
Straight-leg
Straight-leg denim is very wearable. This style hits the waist or even higher and can have a zipper or button fly. The straight-leg looks best if it fits well, and the pant length is tailored the footwear you wear. This is usually longer than an ankle length pant. We suggest pairing the straight jean with a button down shirt. Tuck it in or wear it open with the sleeves rolled up.
An AG straight-leg, high rise denim looks great with a Mos Mosh button down shirt.
The Gabor blue suede platform sandal pairs perfectly with the denim.
A subtle, straight leg denim paired with a Wonders sling-back shoe is a fresh feminine look.
The Relaxed Style
The boyfriend, wide-leg, mom jean, or balloon styles are a relaxed fit and super comfortable to wear. The jeans in 2021 are more fitted with a mid to high rise and the pant length isn’t long enough to have much of a break at the top of the foot. Unless your personal style is lots of loose flowing layers you’ll likely want to balance the volume of the pant with a more fitted or tucked in top. If you love to mix tough with soft, a baggy or looser jean looks ultra chic with a heel and a silk blouse or camisole. If you’re looking for comfort and more of a casual vibe wear this silhouette with your most comfy footwear such as Birkenstock sandals.
The ex-boyfriend slim pant has a relaxed fit and is so comfortable. A Brave Leather belt and Mjus boot, in a cognac colour, completes the look.
Denim Washes
Faded denim is cool and great to wear during the warmer months of the year. This year distressing is subtle and the occasional hole in the knee looks fun.
A faded Mos Mosh cropped denim looks fun and comfortable with a flocked, pink colour Velvet hoodie.
The biggest change in denim in the past couple of years is the rise, which is the length from waistband to crotch. While there have been murmurs that low-rise jeans are making a return, don’t feel you need to
embrace this trend. Instead, try a slightly higher rise. You may enjoy wearing the high rise denim and find it’s more comfortable for wearing all day. Higher rise pants don’t slide down, or fold over at the waist-band when you’re sitting. We also have a good selection of Mavi denim this season. Our selection of Mavi denim includes - the Iconic Mom; the Wide-leg Vintage Skinny; and a Boyfriend faded wash.
This season’s jean is about the fit, length, and silhouette. Denim pants are more than a weekend workhorse. They are a style item that’s a staple in your wardrobe. Use denim to glam up tee shirts and sneakers, or add interest to sweaters and blazers. This is a sure way to give a fresh touch to your wardrobe classics.
The faded wide-leg, cropped Mosh Mosh denim is awesome with all the summer lightweight fabrics and colours. Add some colour with an iconic Johnny Was embroidered bag.
What about skinny jeans? Please wear your skinny pants if you still love wearing them. Maybe consider buying a few new blouses and tops to give them a update. Did you see the recent article declaring skinny fit pants are out of fashion? We don’t believe you should ever give up what you enjoy wearing. Ever! We are here to assist if you want to update and freshen things up a little.
